Chester Skills Development Centre, also known as Chester Day Opportunities, provides a day service to disabled adults living in the Chester area. It is a large day service which can accommodate up to 50 people. We can provide support for as much or as little time as you wish; whether it’s for a few hours, a day, an evening, or in a supported living setting for 24 hours a day. What we provide is different for every individual, based on their needs and wishes. The people we support can be supported to learn and develop skills in: • Caring for themselves • Living independently • Building and maintaining relationships with friends and family • Accessing services, resources and activities in the community At Chester Skills Development Centre, we give disabled adults the opportunity to try a full range of indoor and outdoor leisure and social activities, both individually and as part of a group. Our group activities enable our customers to build and maintain relationships with their peers and prevent isolation and are ideal for those keen to make new friends and meet new people. Our activities include: • arts and crafts, cookery and IT classes • fitness groups, including gardening, walking, swimming and cycling • volunteering at local places, including Chester Zoo, local shops and cafes • visits to the library and areas within the local community Through our flexible support you’ll gain new skills, confidence and independence. It’s your choice what you’ll do. The day service is housed in a fully accessible building with fully accessible toilets and all areas allowing access for wheelchairs. We have a computer suite, an arts & crafts room, a skills kitchen, a games room including a dart board, pool table and table football. Our large dining area allows for large social gatherings and enables everyone to have lunch together with friends. We have several offices and a couple of additional rooms used on an ad-hoc basis. We have large areas of outdoor space and use these as part of our activities. There is a sensory garden which is being developed as a customer project to the side of the building. To the rear of the building, we have our fruit and vegetable area which is contained within raised beds. Once grown, the vegetables are shared between the individuals we support and used within cookery groups. We also have lawn areas where we sit out in the summer months and play games including football, bowling and cricket.
